Demex Daily #247: Citrea Launches Clementine Bridge on Bitcoin Testnet for Smart Contracts

What’s Interesting Today:

Citrea has launched its BitVM-based bridge, Clementine, on the Bitcoin testnet, aiming to utilize Bitcoin as a settlement layer for global finance. The Clementine bridge facilitates a trust-minimized two-way peg, allowing Bitcoin to be locked on the main chain and equivalent tokens to be minted for use on Citrea. Built using the BitVM paradigm, it enables Ethereum-style smart contracts on Bitcoin and supports zero-knowledge computations. Citrea is EVM-compatible, meaning Ethereum applications can be deployed without modifications. The bridge helps alleviate congestion and fees by settling transactions away from the main blockchain.
