Demex Daily #310: EigenLayer Launches Slashing Testnet and Expands AVS

What’s Interesting Today:

EigenLayer's slashing testnet launched on December 20, with a mainnet launch pending approval of the EigenLayer Improvement Protocol-002 (ELIP-002). The update introduces Unique Stake Allocation to reduce slashing risks and Operator Sets for Actively Validated Services (AVS). The protocol, which uses staked Ether as collateral, enhances blockchain security by penalizing validators for errors or failures. EigenLayer’s AVS community is growing, with RedStone and Infura launching AVS projects. Upcoming upgrades in January 2025 will allow AVS to distribute rewards based on operator performance.

The IOTA community approved the Rebased protocol upgrade, focusing on scalability, security, decentralization, and a new tokenomics model with staking rewards. With 98.37% support in a governance vote, Rebased introduces faster transactions, improved security, and a sustainable balance of inflation and deflation. A public testnet is live, supported by major validators, with the mainnet launch planned after rigorous testing and security audits.
